Roofumentary

It was "so nice" out today, only 0 C (translation: cold, but not COLD). The Canadian thought it was the perfect afternoon to get some work done on his truck. I thought it was the perfect afternoon to curl up on the couch with a book. But, he had a point. It hasn't been running for the past three weeks and I'm not used to this one-car-couple thing. He needed to do some work on the carburetor and then decided that it might, just might, be time to take off the canvas top and put on the hard top. Ya know, now that its getting down to -10C in the mornings.  See the hard top sitting in the corner of the yard? Classy. If you look really close you can see the lawn mower parked under it.

Before I got suckered into helping, I thought a quick trip for coffee and donuts was in order. This is my version of helping...providing TimBits (pronounced Munchkins).

When you own a '71 Land Rover you spend most Sunday afternoons working on your truck. It's the only car he has ever owned. He loves this car. Excuse me, truck

Once the top was off, he took the bar thingys off and it looked like a pick-up. Then he looked at me, dead serious, and said "I don't know why you don't want to keep the top off all the time in the summer."

For some extra muscle to put the hard top on, John and Annie came over. Yes, Annie's eyes do not match.

I would have taken photos of the actual process but somehow I got suckered into helping. Like more than just providing donuts and entertainment. But not much more.

Roof on. Mission complete. Well, I thought so. I tried to escape back inside but was called back.

1971 Land Rovers don't have...ummm...many options. So you improvise.

They put me to work again. I was in charge of installing the brand new overhead light. A Petzel headlamp. You too can own one for a mere $30 and your local outdoor store! All your missing is the nifty Land Rover logo.

Hobie reallllly wanted a TimBit. She didn't take her eyes off the pretty red box once.

Annie didn't take her eyes off my camera. Or the trees. Or the snow. Or the fence. Or the neighbors. Or the TimBits. Or the sky. Or the deck. Or anything else within eyeshot.

I love it when John comes over to help with a project. Look at him. It's -1,000 degrees, snowy, he's missing his football game and he's still smiling and laughing. When everyone else is all frustrated and stressed, John's still rolling right along, gettin' the job done. Not to mention he can build, fix, rig, and install absolutely anything.

Then, the final piece. The back window. Thank God, now I don't have to play taxi in the morning.

By the end of the afternoon, Maple successfully had five balls taken away and put on top of the car. Far out of reach.

Congratulations! You are the winner of the Most Annoying Dog contest. You can claim your prize at the pound!

Kidding.

  2. It does have seatbelts. Lap belts, actually. Even the back benches that fold down from the side have double lap seatbelts...one belt for two people!
