Real Coffee.

One of the perks of Canadian living is enjoying an extra day of rest on Easter Monday.

In college a friend and I spent a semester back-packing across Australia. We arrived in Sydney in March and by the time Easter rolled around we were down on the south coast. For Easter we hauled our backpacks to church, treated ourselves to a cadbury egg from 7-Eleven for breakfast and then headed to the bus station. We spent the rest of the day on a Greyhound to Adelaide. The next morning, Monday, we hit the streets ready to take on a new city. But it was closed. I mean, every shop, store and door was locked for Easter Monday. For the life of us, we couldn't figure out what was going on.

We have the day off here in Canada too, but most stores were open today. Not that I noticed. That would have required me getting out of my pajamas and being productive today.

TC and I did manage to make it out to breakfast this morning. We bypassed our normal greasy diners in favor of a cafe that serves "real" coffee, as TC calls it.

Do you ever need a day to do nothing but recharge your batteries? That's what today was for us. Sure, I have roughly two million things I could have been doing - but all of it can wait until tomorrow.

Or the maybe even the next day.

Actually, as it turns out, it can all wait until I get to it.

I feel like we're moving into a new phase of the year. Trips are coming up, pressure is building at work, all of our nice-weather activities will start up again and then - boom! - we will be back in Maine for the summer. My head is spinning just thinking about all the good stuff that is going to happen.

So, we took today to recharge and and relax. You know it's been a good day when you're biggest accomplishment was ordering a cup of coffee.

  1. Having a day off and going for picnic with my family and friends is my favorite thing. I always want to go for outing with people, it's so entertaining. Nice blog post by The Eskimo.
