It's Like Living in a Flower Shop.

In college I decided to get a part time job. Not that I had time, but I thought it would be fun and extra cash is always good, right? I wanted to work at a flower shop.

It didn't matter that I had no experience or knowledge of flowers. I just knew that I loved the colors and the creativity that floral arrangements involved.

Either that or I watched the 90's flick Bed of Roses one too many times. Remember? Christian Slater and Mary Stuart Masterson? It had a great soundtrack.

Doesn't matter. I never did get a job at a flower shop.

Instead I wound up at a veterinarian office. Not exactly colorful and creative, but still a great learning experience. Everyone needs to know the best way to muzzle a dog and draw blood from an extremely angry cat, right?

I'll own a flower shop one day. One day I will. I'll just keep telling myself that.

I remember telling my dad that I dreamed of owning a flower shop.

He rolled his eyes and replied, "I'm sure glad your out-of-state tuition is going toward a worthy cause."

Since my mom's successful surgery our house has turned into my very own flower shop.

The amount of food, flowers, and love is staggering.

If the delicious food continues pouring in then I'll be forced to permanently move into the gym.

I would photograph the food, but the flowers are much more photogenic.

So thank you, thank you, thank you for all the beautiful flowers, the delicious food and the good thoughts that you have sent our way.

And thank you for re-inspiring me to pursue my floral dreams.

I'm sure my father will thank you too.

  1. Because of you, Bed of Roses is now one of my favorite movies ever. You introduced it to me in the basement of your parents house. And you are right, the soundtrack is fabulous. I blame it all on you, but I will gladly work in your flower shop, so long as it's not located in Canada.
